Bodega Andreu Sole (a restaurant, bar, vineyard, and winery in Ensenada, Puerto Rico) began in 1982 by Mr. Juan Andreu Roig, an original winemaker from Castellon (capital of a province of Valencia). He determined that there was a suitable micro-climate found in the tropics and there was a possibility that grapes could adapt to the environment. Mr. Sole planted 70 acres with varieties of table grapes brought from Spain, California (USA), and other parts of the world between 1982 and 1983. After eight years of hard work and just beginning to see the fruits, all was lost by an extraordinary flood.
Ten years later, his son Juan Ramon Andreu Solé decided to restart the project with a new concept – making handcrafted wine, sangrias, and a line of handcrafted liquors. With this concept in mind, the team started acquiring permits and planting the seeds for this project. In January 2009, Bodegas Andreu Sole opened their facilities to the general public and presented handcrafted products. The main attraction is the wine Doce Calles, strengthened wine, porto type that combines the properties of Merlot and Tempranillo grapes, and alcohol that is added during the fermentation process. The final product is a very different balanced wine.
